IELTS Academic Preparation
Master the test strategies required for top-tier university admissions and migration.
Overview
What is IELTS Academic?
The IELTS Academic test is the world's most trusted English language proficiency assessment — accepted by over 11,000 organisations across 140+ countries, including universities, government immigration authorities, and professional licensing bodies. A high band score is not merely a checkbox; it is a credential that signals your readiness to succeed in English-language academic and professional environments.
Maven's IELTS preparation programme is engineered around the 2026 scoring criteria and the computer-delivered test format. Every session is led by certified trainers — including ex-IELTS examiners and candidates who achieved Band 8.0 or above. We do not teach to a generic syllabus; we diagnose your individual weak points and build a tailored training plan that closes the gap between your current performance and your target band.
Our cohorts are deliberately small — capped at 8 students per batch — so every participant receives genuine one-on-one attention during feedback sessions. This is the single biggest differentiator between Maven and large coaching centres that run batch sizes of 30 or more.
Critical Update
2026 Visa Score Requirements
English language requirements for Australian and Canadian visas have been updated for 2026. All prospective visa applicants must confirm current score thresholds before booking their test — getting this wrong costs you months and hundreds of dollars.
- Australia SC 500 (Student Visa): minimum IELTS overall Band 5.5 (previously 5.0) — individual component scores must also meet 5.0 per band; institutions typically require higher minimums at 6.0–7.0
- Australia SC 485 (Graduate Visa): minimum IELTS overall Band 6.0 with no individual band below 5.0 — previously 5.5 overall; the Department now applies stricter per-component requirements
- Australia Skilled Migration (189/190/491): 'Proficient English' threshold remains IELTS 7.0 per communicative skill for 10 points; 'Superior English' (8.0 per band) awards 20 points
- Canada Study Permit (SDS stream): minimum IELTS Academic 6.0 in every individual band — a score below 6.0 in any single skill disqualifies the application from the fast-track SDS stream
- UK Student Route: minimum IELTS Academic 5.5 overall with no component below 5.5 for most providers; Russell Group universities routinely require 6.5–7.5
- One Skill Retake (OSR): from 2024, test takers may retake a single underperforming skill section rather than the full test — available for computer-delivered IELTS only; results issued within 3–5 business days
